Seeking the Spirit

It was a blessing for me to spend 4 weeks preaching through 1 Corinthians 12-14 regarding the gifts of the Holy Spirit. I found the time transformative, as I had never examined the texts of 1 Corinthians 12-14 in that kind of depth before!

You might be asking what next steps exist. Here are some good ways to continue journeying with the Spirit:

1. Don’t forget that the gifts are designed to help us bless others.

Forgetting this means you forget the main thing. Seek the gifts of the Spirit, but it must be rooted in your deeper conviction that you should exist for the blessing of others.

2. Finish reading “The Beginner’s Guide to Spiritual Gifts” by Sam Storms.

Sam has a ton of excellent tips on how to pursue the Lord in this journey, and will also provide some excellent rails to think on.

3. Take advantage of opportunities to seek the Spirit with others!

At CoaH Brookline we’ve been offering prayer after worship gatherings; this is a great time to be ministered to by the Holy Spirit, but also it is a good time to ask with others to know the Spirit in a deeper way and to receive gifts from Him. But you can also ask for prayer from your community group and from other believers!

God willing, we’ll also be having a CoaH Network worship night in the September, and our annual retreat in October.  There will be times in these gatherings to specifically practice and seek the gifts of the Spirit.

May the Lord guide and lead us as we seek to know Him better, and may He equip us with all that we need to love Him and others in the way that He has loved us.
