community group study guide questions 2.8.15

ICE BREAKER
Before we dive into the conversation on the passage tonight, let’s talk about the purpose of Community Groups for a few minutes. What do you think the purpose to CG is?

While CG has a lot of purposes, one of the primary ones is to make-disciples. What does it mean to disciple someone?

Ultimately, disciple-making is just about being intentional in our friends’ lives in order to encourage them to love and obey God more faithfully – which is what our passage is all about!

PASSAGE DISCUSSION
(Remember: Your goal is good discussion, not just to get through all the questions. Choose the best, leave the rest.)

Read 1 Peter 1:1-2 twice.

UNDERSTAND THE WORD
Who was Peter and why is he important?

What does this passage tell us about God?

What does this passage tell us about ourselves?

What does the phrase “elect exiles” mean in this passage?

APPLY THE WORD (select 1 question beforehand to use in guy/girl time)
How can the idea that God foreknew you to be elected be encouraging in times of suffering or distance from God?

What does “sanctification of the Spirit” mean? How have you experienced this?

Why are Christians called to be obedient to Jesus Christ, and what’s up with the whole “sprinkling with his blood” part?

How have you seen God’s grace and peace multiplied to you in the past few weeks?

MEN AND WOMEN TIME
(We normally will split into groups of men and women for more in depth sharing and prayer at the end. Use one of the questions from the application section selected beforehand.)
